Our Vision
Sparrows Rest endeavors to break the familial cycle of abuse and neglect. Sparrows Rest envisions a community where foster youth are encouraged and supported by caring adult mentors, healed through equine assisted therapy, trained for independent living and provided safe transitional housing in a supervised setting.
Our Mission
To improve the outcomes for youth in foster care or at risk of entering the foster care system by providing equine assisted growth and learning opportunities, independent living skills training and transitional housing.
Our Organization
Sparrows Rest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are a public charity and are registered with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Sparrows Rest is part of The EAGALA Network of more than 4,400 Mental Health Professionals and Equine Specialists in 50 countries. EAGALA professionals are trained and credentialed to offer The EAGALA Model exclusively to their clients. Horses are uniquely sensitive to the feelings of those around them and respond in ways which relfect aspects of ourselves and our relationships. The EAGALA Model is an innovative, ethical set of business practices that builds on the human/horse connection to help people learrn more about themselves and to use that learning to change their lives.
